28 Weeks

I know I've been terrible about sharing my pregnancy experience but I can say it's been really good! I've been very comfortable for the most part, my back hurts pretty much everyday but I hear that's pretty normal. I do have a lot of concerns so my sisters get a lot of phone calls, but I think it's simply first timers worry. The last time we went in he weighed two pounds and as you can see below looks to be just fine. I've been writing and reading a lot and collecting songs I want to sing to him; so far we've got:

Didn't leave nobody but the baby- Emmylou Harris
Summertime- Billy Holiday
Baby Mine- Ms. Jumbo
Buffalo- Mountainman
Black bird- The Beatles
(Any others you all think I should be reading?)

He kicks a ton, I have some videos I'll share of him kicking like crazy.
I really want a natural birth and as I'm reading and researching I'm finding the best way to really go about that is to use a midwife/birth home, so Brett and I are meeting with one this weekend, hopefully all goes well and we'll be able to move forward with everything. So far I've been seeing an obgyn and am just not feeling the whole thing.

We got a new car, one with a back seat! We didn't have that before, so that's a major relief knowing I'll be able to take my baby home with me. haha

Still just working away, trying to figure everything out, but one things for sure, I feel like I'm doing exactly what I should be doing, it is an incredible feeling of being content, not thinking about the next step I'm going to take with school or work or travel. Just feeling like as long as I eat whats good and walk my fat butt around I'm doing just fine.

I'll let you all know how things go this weekend, Happy Fourth!
We're going down to Santa Cruz with the fam, not sure what I'm going to wear? Feeling like my  cellulite bootie needs to just lay low for a few more months.

I have no suggestions for songs cuz you a great start. More will come as he comes. You'll know what to sing.

As far as midwife, ask Ronna. The only thing I would say is if you are having a bigger baby, (he seems to be a big boy, so far) there are different risks and having a trained medical staff is something to consider. Now that I might have freaked you out new mommy, just take a deep breath and consider it. That's all. No need to stress.

Oh and epidurals are great. So are washing machines, cars, talkies and all sorts of new-fangled technology! Hee Hee. If pioneers had epidurals, I bet they'd have 20 kids instead of just the paltry 12 or 14. I mean c'mon. LOL.

You look so beautiful pregnant! I bet Brett thinks so too!
Read everything you can get your hands on! Educate yourself, and Brett too! The more knowledge you have the less fear, less fear equals less pain.

Moon Shadow by Cat Stevens. I used to sing Summertime- Janice Joplin style to my babies and also Blackbirds by the Beatles is a great one to sing!Good choices Mama!

You are too cute!

I had 3 natural births
and 3 with an epidural.

I'm glad it went that way, mostly for bragging rights to say I did it natural.

I saw no difference in the product of children each produced.
I recovered quicker and felt much better with the epidurals.
Though the birthing experience and bonding with Ted was far more intense with the natural birth and the urge to push was there too. I liked that.
Had I had a choice to have an epidural with the first 3, I would have taken it, as does everybody I know who goes into birth thinking they'll go natural. When your in that much pain, and the choice is there, most take it.

I am glad you called tonight and answered all my questions. If I had read your blog I would have all the questions answered. Sheila fixed my computer so now I can easily find your blog. I always like to HEAR from you too. What are you going to name YOUR BOY?

"Natural Childbirth'. I think your referring to unmedicated, letting labor progress without assistance, freedom to walk around, change positions, etc.
Being a Labor in Delivery RN for 20 years and having 3 "Natural Childbirths" myself, doing the Lamaze method. My input would be, Use a mid-wife, do the natural method of your choice, but do it in a medical facility. Just in case things don't go smoothly. When things go bad during labor they go bad fast.
I don't know what the laws are in Cali but in AZ your midwife or doula comes with you to the hospital when you check in and gives your birth plan to your nurse. They try to adhearn to all your wishes as long as it is medically safe to do so. Your baby will still need to be checked periodically with the external monitor and by the RN & Midwife to assure everything is progressing in a safe manner. I say go natural, but in a medical facility with emergency resuscitation available. You are doing everything right and we are all so excited for you.
